Passing the raised part of the pergola, the visitor enters a remarkable area: le theatre de verdure. Here, William Chrisite has extravagantly sculpted yew to create a living folly, a green theatre that evokes a Chinese pavilion. A jewel-box of spring and summer bedding plants carpet the exterior of the theatre. As elsewhere in the garden, the visitor can pass from area to area, continually experiencing hidden surprises behind every wall and every hedge.
